Bathtub, Shower Pan & Tile Refinishing in Denver, CO

Your tub, shower, and tile don't need replacing. They need refinishing.

A stained tub, a worn shower pan, tile that's cracked or stuck in a color from another decade — any one of them makes the whole bathroom feel tired. The instinct is to start pricing a remodel. But tearing out a tub, a shower base, or a tile surround means demolition, plumbing, disposal, and days or weeks with the bathroom torn apart, at a bill that runs into the thousands.

Refinishing (also called reglazing or resurfacing) fixes the surfaces you already have. We repair the damage, prep the surface, and apply a new, durable finish — in place. No demolition, no plumbing changes, nothing torn out. Most jobs take 2–4 hours on site, and the surface is ready to use the next day.

Surface Specialists of Denver has been refinishing bathroom surfaces for 40+ years. We're family owned and operated — Nick and April Roos — BBB A+ rated, and our work has been featured on HGTV's Rehab Addict. We refinish for homeowners across Denver and Northern Colorado, and for builders and hotels, including DR Horton and Ferguson.

Bathtubs

We repair chips, cracks, and worn spots, then apply a new finish to your existing tub — porcelain, fiberglass, acrylic, or cast iron. Refinishing handles the problems that make a tub look finished: stains that won't come out, dullness, worn or peeling finish, and outdated colors you want gone. The tub stays where it is, and with normal care a refinished tub lasts 15–20+ years, per our site. Just have one chip or crack in an otherwise sound tub? That's a spot repair, not a full refinish — see our chip and crack repair page.

Shower pans

The shower pan takes the hardest beating in the bathroom — every shower, every day, right where you stand — so its finish wears thin, stains set in, and small chips and cracks start to show. Replacing a pan is a much bigger job than it sounds: the pan sits under the shower walls, so getting it out usually means removing tile or surround panels, dealing with the drain and plumbing, and rebuilding everything you tore apart. We repair the damage first — chips, cracks, and worn spots — then refinish the pan in place, so the base of your shower is smooth, sealed, and easy to clean again without losing your shower to a construction project. If a pan is damaged beyond what repair and refinishing can handle, we'll tell you honestly at the estimate rather than coat over a problem.

Tile

Tile problems usually start small — one chipped tile, a crack across a shower wall, a finish gone dull and dingy. Or the tile is sound but the color dates the whole room. Re-tiling means removal, disposal, wall repair, and new tile. We take the surface route instead: repair chipped, cracked, or worn tiles, prep the surround, and apply a fresh, durable finish over the tile — including a color change to a modern finish — while it stays on the wall. It's a practical answer for tile that's damaged in a few spots but solid overall, and for tile that's in fine shape but stained, dull, or outdated.

Refinishing vs. replacing

Whichever surface it is, replacement follows the same pattern: removal, disposal, plumbing and wall repair, new materials, and a bathroom out of service for days or longer. Refinishing costs about 75% less than replacement, per our site's own comparison — and it's done in a day, not a week.
